Assistance

Dutch Muslims send especially during Ramadan money and goods to families and residents from the villages of origin. Every year on this way for many millions of euros go to the home countries. This form of assistance is single and often not very durable.

Professionalization is an urgent need for a sustainable improvement to ensure a better position and acquires various partners to achieve its objective.

SMHO Network operates solely with volunteers, but will in future also to attract employees. This is part of the professionalisation. The search of a building is there. In this way, the many volunteers are durable motivated, encouraged and supported.

The objective of SMHO Our objective is as follows: from the tolerant Muslim community in the Netherlands to contribute effective and efficient assistance in health, education, environment, democratization and human rights. The SMHO supports local authorities and NGOs, among others in Turkey, Eastern Europe, Africa, Central Asia.

Mission
SMHO Network is working on emancipation and integration of Muslims in the Netherlands and to aid in care, education, environment, democratization, human rights, empowerment, constructive repatriation and other.

It does so only in the spirit of a tolerant Islam and a functioning democratic structure. It is therefore logic that SMHO Network only works with organizations to support this idea and reflect this in their actions.
By providing courses, symposia, conferences, website, flyers, brochures, maintaining contacts with organizations in the mainland, raising funds, etc. immigrants in the Netherlands provide sustainable development.

Because SMHO constant expands and hopes to spread its ideas and involves as many people as possible in integration in the Netherlands and development in the country of origin.

Value of SMHO
Each euro is best spent on the development of the project areas, as representatives of SMHO Network site itself to see how, by whom and for whom the money is used. It is a cost-conscious operation, from a huge commitment and enthusiasm. The board and representatives are familiar with the culture, language and the network site.

How we involve the people in the Netherlands?
SMHO reaches its target in the Netherlands by providing courses, symposia, conferences, website, flyers, brochures, maintaining contacts with organizations in the metropolitan and raising funds for the projects in the following ways:

  • collection of money in mosques.
  • collect money through various activities.
  • information about the (bad) situation in the countries.

 

 

What is the SMHO?

EnglishThe Cooperating Muslims Help Organizations
(S M H O) is a network of of 26 Islamic organizations in the Netherlands, founded in
2005, focusing on inclusion, participation, international cooperation and poverty reduction. In the spirit of the tolerant Islam the SMHO network wants to contribute in achieving a harmonious world where Muslims and non-Muslims are living together on the basis of respect.
The SMHO supports for this purpose small-scale initiatives of nonprofit organizations. Another goal of the SMHO is involving the Turkish comunity in the Netherlands in international development
cooperation.

The activities of SMHO consists of:

  • Ramadan Action
  • The Feast of Sacrifice Action
  • Small Project Fund
  • Activities in the area of awareness and support extension (network and education)

Since 2005, member organizations of the SMHO are busy during the month of Ramadan with various collection activities, in order to contribute to poverty reduction in poor countries. Each year the member
organizations choose different countries.
The Ramadan Action is part of the Schokland Agreement, signed by Cordaid and SMHO. This cooperation relates in particular to Milleniumgoal 8: more children to school.

To increase the involvement of the Muslims to the poverty problem in the Netherlands, for the first time in Dutch history members of the SMHO raised meat as part of the feastaction during the Muslim Feast of Sacrifice.

The SMHO PROJECTS FUND, is an initiative of a number of Turkish entrepreneurs (mainly) from Amsterdam, targeting to involve Turkish Muslims in the Netherlands in international development cooperation and European integration.


SMHO participates in UN Alliance of Civilizations Forum

The consultant of the SMHO and chairman of the UETD Veyis Güngör was invited by the Turkish Minister of State Prof. Dr. Mehmet Aydın to participate in the second Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations. This Alliance is the most important international initiative aimed at advancing intercultural understanding. More

Yalcın Yağçı speaks about Fostering Creativity at the European Foundation conference in Istanbul

Over 650 representatives of NGOs from different parts of the world came together in Istanbul in May for the conference organized by The European Foundation Center.

Yalcın YağçıThe Dutch participants in the conference include among others, SMHO president Yalcın Yağçı and representatives of the Prince Bernard Cultural Fund, The Orange Fund, VSB Foundation Fund, Rabobank Foundation, Foundation Fund 1818, Bernard van Leer Foundation and the Mama Cash Foundation.

Under the banner of "Fostering Creativity", SMHO president Mr. Yağçı spoke in Swissôtel The Bosphorus about Analysing Practice, Building Effective Organisations, Fostering Partnerships and Tackling Global Issues.
SMHO President Yalcın attended also the award ceremony for the Raymond Georis Prize for Innovative Philanthropy and the 2nd annual EFC Photo Competition.
